Murray Booth brings decades of hands-on technical expertise to the aquatic industry. After starting mechanical engineering at UTS Sydney, Murray found his calling in the practical side of engineering, completing his apprenticeship with Freight Rail (State Rail Authority, NSW) where he received numerous awards including Apprentice of the Year twice, runner-up Apprentice of the Year, and Workskills awards for high performance.
Throughout his career, Murray has worked across diverse technical fields including manufacturing technical ceramics, custom fabrication, and large-scale industrial plant operations. His passion for engineering extended to building and crewing on racing cars in Formula Ford, Hillclimb Formula Libre, and Drag Racing categories—experience that honed his understanding of precision engineering and system optimisation.
After relocating to Coffs Harbour, Murray developed his business acumen working at a major independent trade supply business, progressing from counter manager to major account sales representative and business data analyst. During this time, he helped develop hundreds of thousands of product specifications to exacting standards and built sophisticated business systems—demonstrating the methodical approach and attention to detail that defines his work today.
Murray joined Swimplex Aquatics and quickly became instrumental in the company's growth in the waterslide and splash pad sector. His deep technical knowledge, coatings expertise, and engineering experience helped unlock significant growth, with the team building over 50 projects across Australia and becoming the leading provider in this category for nearly a decade.
During this period, Murray took on the design, development, and installation of control systems for these projects. From basic single-pump plant rooms to controlling five slides on major attractions, and developing traffic light systems that work within industrial sensor limitations, Murray built extensive experience across the full spectrum of aquatic facility automation.
Working closely with licenced electrician Paul Franklin for over a decade, Murray has developed systems that consistently exceed expectations. His understanding of hardware capabilities and limitations at each price point allows him to deliver exceptional value while maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance.
Deep Technical Knowledge: Murray can turn his hand to anything in the aquatic space. His broad background means his ideas are both clever and practical—grounded in real-world experience across manufacturing, engineering, and automation.
Creative Problem-Solving: An unusually high-level thinker who is thoughtful and perceptive. Murray brings creative, outside-the-box solutions that work in practice, not just on paper.
Industry Insight: A deep understanding of the players in this space, their tactics, and their biases. This knowledge helps Murray navigate complex projects and deliver outcomes that genuinely serve client needs.
Easy to Work With: Enthusiastic, approachable, and genuinely fun to collaborate with. Murray makes technical projects less daunting and more productive.
Murray is a licenced Recreational Pilot who flies his own Light Sport Aircraft when time permits. In 2023, he safely landed on a beach north of Coffs Harbour following an engine failure, requiring a helicopter rescue. True to form, he then rebuilt the replacement engine to ensure it wouldn't suffer the same fate—it now has over 200 hours without issue.
Currently, Murray is rebuilding a drag racing car he fabricated with a friend 35 years ago and plans to return to competitive drag racing once the rebuild is complete.
Murray is supported by his wife Lynda, who has been a constant supporter throughout his career, and has three adult children: William, Harrison, and Scottie.
